I've been in a rut, guys. I don't know if it's the muck and mire and slime of 2017 or just your typical "artist's block," but my creativity juices have not been flowing lately. And, as much as I love drawing the way I do, sometimes it feels like I'm trapped in one style. I've been wanting to test out a new style for a while now, but it's been scary! I follow so many different kinds of artists on Pinterest but fear was making me think I couldn't go in any of those directions. I finally decided I had to woman up and just go for it.
I began with a small personal project (that may or may not be inspired by myself and my husband, ahem). It's very different from my typical style, but it's whimsical and colorful, and most importantly, it was FUN to create!
(As you can see, I'm still chartreuse-obsessed.)
In addition to this fun project, a friend tagged me in an Instagram post by the Women's March. It asked for an open call for art for their new campaign, Power to the Polls. Each artist is allowed 3 submissions and must speak to the Power to the Polls mission, "a national voter-registration drive and traveling art exhibition targeting swing states. The national voter registration tour will target swing states to register new voters, engage impacted communities, harness our collective energy to advocate for policies and candidates that reflect our values, and collaborate with our partners to elect more women and progressives candidates to office. The coordinated campaign will build upon Women’s March’s ongoing work uplifting the voices and campaigns of the nation’s most marginalized communities to create transformative social and political change."
See below for my 3 submissions!
I'm working on more personal projects and will share as I go - thanks for visiting :)
Cheers to trying new things!
